Golf Course Meggen successfully GEO-certified

We are very pleased to have received the GEO certificate!
The topics of environment and sustainability will concern all golf courses even more in the future. That is why we have decided to certify the golf facilities in Meggen. In this way we can make an active contribution to planning and achieving our goals for sustainable management in the future.

Practically all golf courses in Switzerland are already making a great contribution and promoting biodiversity:

It is documented that Swiss golf courses make a significant contribution to the protection of flora and fauna and provide a protected habitat for endangered species. Thanks to ecological compensation areas (wild hedges, bushes, dry and wet sites, species-rich flower meadows, etc.), the Meggen golf course is an enrichment for biodiversity.

Golf courses make an important contribution to the sustainability of cities and communities. Did you know that an 18-hole golf course contributes to the production of oxygen for up to 10,000 people? It also provides a cooling effect thanks to the many green spaces.

In addition to the opportunity to play golf, many golf courses invite you to go for a walk or to practise alternative sports. A wide variety of sports can be played together. The Meggen golf course, with its panorama hiking trail, is a public recreation area on the outskirts of Lucerne.

Golf courses that take sustainability seriously are increasingly building natural water reservoirs (ponds and lakes) and using computer-controlled irrigation systems. In this way, more than 30% of water can be saved. The Meggen golf course realised various water reservoirs during the construction of the course in 2017. So far, the entire course can be irrigated with the stored rainwater.

Many golf courses rely on green electricity and install solar panels. The Meggen golf course has two solar systems with 30 and 40 kWp capacity. This means that part of the electricity required can be produced by the facility itself.

Thanks to the GEO certificate, golf courses all over the world can compare themselves with each other. In this way, a facility can see where it stands in terms of sustainability and can continuously improve.
