The charity golf tournament for children with cancer on the golf course in Meggen was a complete success. 45,000 Swiss francs can be donated to the Children's Cancer Aid Central Switzerland through Juliana Felder's Matura project.
Among the 60 participants on Saturday, 3 July were ski stars Marco Odermatt, Semyel Bissig and Marc Gisin, who actively supported the event. Jann Billeter from Swiss Television, himself an enthusiastic golfer, hosted the event and led the approximately 85 guests through the evening with humorous entertainment but also blunt information about childhood cancer.
Cure as many children as possible
The tournament was organised by Juliana Felder from Meggen as part of her Matura thesis. Juliana was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 11. She told the Luzerner Zeitung after the tournament: "With chemotherapy, radiotherapy, difficult operations, a lot of strength and luck, I have successfully fought cancer." It is very close to Juliana's heart that children's cancer research can be actively pursued in order to be able to cure as many children as possible and to minimise the long-term consequences of the fierce therapies.
Clinical childhood cancer research thanks to donations
Childhood cancer is very rare and yet it is the second most common cause of death among children in Switzerland. 1 in 5 children suffering from cancer die. Even if a child has beaten cancer, the late effects can be enormous. It is only thanks to generous donations that SPOG (Swiss Paediatric Oncology Group) is able to carry out clinical paediatric cancer research. About one third of SPOG's funding comes from the state, the additional money has to be raised through donations.
An unforgettable day for a good cause
Thanks to the many generous donors, Juliana Felder was able to hand over 45,000 Swiss francs at the end of the event to Kinderkrebshilfe Zentralschweiz for the benefit of clinical children's cancer research. The event was a complete success in every respect. It was an unforgettable day for a good cause with many interesting and beautiful encounters. Further donations for children with cancer are most welcome to the account of Kinderkrebshilfe Zentralschweiz IBAN CH72 0900 0000 6000 5307 2.
